Cotted Fleeces

COTTED FLEECES

A cotted fleece is one in which the fibres close to the body are matted or tangled. This condition may be caused by ill health of the sheep, such as a fever, or the absence of the proper amounts of yolk or grease in the wool. These fleeces are often produced by very old sheep with low vitality.
